the selby

if you haven't checked out the selby i highly recommend it. i discovered it back in august one day as i was "blog dreaming" as i like to call it. getting lost on various blogs and websites with one creative page leading to another.

todd selby is a portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator.

his project the selby offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist's eye for detail. the selby began in june 2008 as a website, http://www.theselby.com/, where todd posted photo shoots he did of his friends in their homes.

requests quickly began coming in daily from viewers all over the world who wanted their homes to be featured on the site. the selby’s website became so popular—with up to 55,000 unique visitors daily—that within months, top companies from around the world began asking to collaborate.

these joint projects have included a large ad campaign and web project with nike 6.0, a solo show at colette, an international ad campaign for habitat, work for the new york times t magazine, and frequent contributions to vogue paris and architectural digest france. todd’s first book, the selby is in your place, was released in may 2010 by abrams.

the same day i discovered the selby i was running through anthropologie and spotted the book for sale. i always think it is crazy how that happens. anyways, check it out- you can learn a lot about a person by seeing where they live.

what i want from... wisteria

i am NO stranger to magazines. (in fact if there was an AA group that met for magazine addiction, i might have to go...)

and i don't descriminate against catalogues, the good ones of course. i look forward to reading the wisteria catalogue every time i find it in my mailbox. it's filled with unique and delightful stuff... some of it expensive but some of it not that bad.

here are a few of the things that caught my eye in the last catalogue that would add alot of interest to your house or mine:

bridal rug upholstered sofa

after i saw this in the last issue of lonny, i was smitten.

colorful woolen dhurrie upholstered ottoman that would look its best at the foot of my bed :)

acrylic side table that you could put anywhere you felt like, beside a sofa, your bed, a bathtub... this is what you would call a versatile, have forever and use-it-in-9-different-ways piece.

an air force pillow. adds alot of graphic punch

louis xvi dining chairs

peacock mirror and dhurrie table cloth

and one can never have too many silver trays either, right?

i know these stools are everywhere, and even starting to be a bit "yesterday's news" but i love this one's shine

inlaid camel bone moorish chest, again, it can go anywhere!

this little settee would find a home in my sunroom :)

malamine plates for outdoor dining

because i like skulls (i think it's the science dork in me) and its the season!

closet envy.

some people prefer to clean out their closets after the new year as a sort of "out with the old, fresh start" feeling. that doesn't work for me because you are still in the middle of a season. and how depressing to get yourself all excited about spring when there are still 4 more months of winter left.

if only i had a grand place to keep all of my clothes. somewhere with a spot for every shirt, every shoe, every piece of jewelry, and every sock. somewhere where my clothes could breathe.

and somewhere with a place to sit and think as i choose my outfits.

instead my things get pushed and shoved in corners of drawers, on top of shelves and in baskets where they may never see the light of day again. ugh, it has to change...not that it matters now since everything i own is still in my suitcase or thrown across the bedroom floor.

these next few weeks feel like the perfect time to realistically evaluate what i wear. and to be honest i hold on to things way too long because you just never know when something you haven't worn for 2 years might just be the perfect thing for your night out...and you have discovered some fabulous new way to wear it.

for me, the beginning of fall is the perfect time for closet clean out. it may be because when i was growing up mom made each of us do a closet clean out before school started in the fall. she would pull each item of clothing out of our closet and ask us if we still liked it, if we still wore it and if it still fit. i loved this process, unlike my brothers who threw a total fit every year, because i knew it meant some fun new school clothes!
