randoms.

so, i'd like to throw some things i've found recently, out there.
just in case you think they are neat.

like this:
is this where posh, grown-up games of beer pong happen?
i would give lots of stuff for this to wind up being in my backyard.
i love it in lots of ways. for lots of reasons.

and because i'm nothing if not predictable, i have a photo i snapped this weekend of the bouquets strewn around my house. this one is on the front table, as soon as you walk in the door...

so sorry it's messy. i didn't clean up before i took it.
it's where the mail goes to multiply and then die.
i hate mail. i hate mail. i hate mail.
most of it is junk and it gets thrown straight into recycling.
i wish there were a spam filter for real mail.
can we just switch everything to email from now on?
except for fine paper goods, like love letters, christmas cards, baby announcements with squishy babies on them, and wedding/party invites.
OH!! and MAGAZINES. duh.
and anthro catalogues.
thank you.

back to the flowers. my whole house smells divine. no jokes here.
and i have some on my desk right now, too.
everyone comments on their perfume.
heavenly.

but all these peonies live in my backyard. and i have to cut them and bring them inside, and donate to grandmas and neighbors, so that i can enjoy them, and others can enjoy them, because they are so fleeting.

and i'm officially finished with my ode to peonies 2013.
if you follow me on instagram, you're probably gagging by now.
sorry about that.

and then there's this:

you guys.
its the new maybelline colorsensational lipstick, in their new 'vivids' color line.
i have been searching the world (not really) for a fierce, bright, super saturated, not fully red, not fully orange lipstick since last summer. i've tried a few but i'm such a loyal to my fuchsia fever pink, that i kinda gave up.
until last night.
i was at walgreens and i bought this.
i wore it to dinner.
i am wearing it to work right now.
i am a new lady (not really).
i love it.
i might buy another tube in case they discontinue it in the next 5 years.
you can get it online (cheaper!) here.
seriously though, i'm really happy with this brand/line of lipsticks. they last a good long time. both fuchsia fever and this vibrant mandarin. they last all day. i'm a cheap drugstore lipstick convert (if we're talking this kind).

and also.
i can't get this lamp outta my head:

it's rita konig's.
i like her, you've seen me say this before.
i even remember when she bought this in an old domino magazine.
at a thrift/antique/junk store in some cool city.
anyway.

happy tuesday.

do you ever?

during our lazy day off yesterday, husband and i were watching movies while cleaning and taking down christmas around the house.

we landed on unknown.

it's an ok, entertaining movie full of twists.
but i was way more interested in the background scenery.

do you ever do that?

how could you not in this room, though?
the pale blue/aqua walls and wallpaper with bright red/orange/persimmon drapes.

i paused it, got my phone and took a picture.
then stored it away in my brain.

my husband and i have been together for almost 10 years now.
i think he used to think it was cute, when we'd watch a movie and i'd ask him if he just saw that lamp or asked if he liked that room... of course he didn't even notice but he'd smile and say something cute or witty.
now he just gives me a weird look, like "only you" and a polite smile.

i blame home alone.
i loved, still love, and always will love that house.
even to this day, i soak up that house.
sure it could use a little update, but i also think about that- what i'd do to spruce it up.
do you do that, or am i nuts?

we saw james bond over the weekend.
if you aren't a james bond fan, and you like pretty sets, you might love this movie.
if you are a total and serious you-own-the-entire-collection-set james bond nerd, like myself, you'd love it. i wasn't a fan of the last 2 with daniel craig (not bc of daniel craig, but the movie itself). this one, however, was awesome.

and the sets were amazing.
from shanghai to scotland.
beauty.

i can't be the only one who does this.
that's why they make sets so pretty...
for those of us that notice and appreciate.
right?

do you have any favorites?

that bird.

i have become somewhat obsessed with this room.

the lamps. the leopard.
the screen as headboard.
the white walls and neutral curtains.
the blanket and rug.

what i more love is this:

i don't know why but this caught my eye on pinterest and i've been in love ever since.

that duck/goose/bird is my hero and all of a sudden i'm looking for its sister when i'm out... for me. to live at my house.

the flowers are gorgeous (my favorites). that vintage painting, awesome. all of it together. i think it just works.

perfect styling.
but not styled so much that it doesn't look like someone lives there, or gathered all those things on their own through the years.

i found the second image on pinterest and it wasn't until months later that i stumbled upon the shot of the whole room. i told you i loved that bird so i spotted it instantly.

its a room by schuyler sampterton interior design, in west hollywood.

kind of a random friday. my apologies.

but thanks for the birthday texts, emails and the like yesterday.

it was a good day.

i got a new-to-me vintage fur coat. (love.)
a record player!!! and some new records.

actually, a great day, way beyond the gifts.

love.

classics. with a twist.

as much as i love my ethnic textiles- from ikats to south american wovens and vintage kilims...

there's something about the classics.

but i'd still take my classics with a twist.
whether it be unexpected color, texture, or pattern on pattern.
or a glint of modern thrown in.

happy monday, y'all.

i'm back from a 5 day weekend and it is slllooooow moving this morning.
doesn't matter how long your vacation is, when you get back to work- you always feel like you could have used another day :)

love.

just plain pretty.

i would lump all of these rooms together to make my perfect dream of a house. and then some of course.

a perfect living space.
complete with sky blue walls. old oil paintings, textures and patterns, a pretty rug and kinda giant lamps.

{house and garden}

this bath.
i love for lots of things.
all the things actually.
i think i would only add a patterned rug and call her good.

{elle decor}

this kitchen.
look at the interior wall of windows. stunning.
but the color of those cabinets and the colorful ikat set table? i die.

{via coco + kelley}

and lastly, my bedroom.
with lavender walls and indian block fabric.
and a pair of glass murano lamps.

{house and garden}

and then.
this illusive little brass teapot that i've been looking for since 1999.
really only since christmas but that's what it feels like.

i begin to think they don't exist and then i see evidence such as below.

just look how pretty she is:

from pinterest. with no lead to go on.

happy thursday and thanks for taking a tour of my dream home with me.

love.

talented: steven gambrel

i preordered steven gambrel's new book from amazon, then recently went to a book signing to get a few more copies to share with friends. it is such a beautiful display of his work with amazing photography by the very talented, eric piasecki. one of my very favorite interior images, if not my favorite, is one i shared on this blog the day we started it. if you haven't had a chance to see his work- or realize it is him- take a little time to check it out. here is a sneak peak....
