i saw these kerry cassill umbrellas on pinterest over the weekend.

should every blog post start with, "this is what i've recently found on pinterst. wanna see it? because you aren't on pinterest either, and you probably didn't see this for yourself."  not ;)

but seriously.

these umbrellas are worth the share.

i specifically like the 3 on the right.

but my little 50s ranch would kinda love the black floral print.

it all started this morning when i got an email saying all their napkins are on sale for $0.99 each.

that's kinda a steal.

my faves were the sangria sofia jacquard ones i used above.

i think i'mma get me some.

furrr-fect

boys and girls, it's getting cold at night.

we sleep with the windows open because it's conducive to snuggling.

husband. myself. and dog.

that, and nothing is fresher than crispy fall air.

and miss dog's not little:

{is it funny [read- weird] that my favorite engagement picture from almost 4 years ago is mostly of my dog and doesn't even include our faces? thanks for saying no.}

this weekend it's expected to dip into the low 30's at night!!

we still haven't re-done our bedroom yet.

the places you spend the most time always seem to be the last you do....

but i'm seriously looking to add a furr-bulous blanket to the mix.

this is the room of my ever-loving dreams:

these fur blankets aren't just warm, they also hide a few faux pas:

like messy beds. they become more spectacular, far less ordinary.

and dog hair? what dog hair? no no, that be my fur blanket, people.

my sweet pooch isn't welcomed onto any other furniture in our house but our bed.

and she relishes in it.

and i like it, too.

ya'll if i weren't working at a work show this weekend,

you better believe i'd be making these beauties.

i have moderately beginner skills in sewing and this tutorial for handmade mitred linen napkins... looks DO-ABLE.

not only could i do it, but it looks relatively easy.

and the painted on gold polkies, absolutely.

it's just so darn beautiful.

the entirety of this sport.... the people. the sails. the boats. the water. the sky. the colors!

the attitude. the lifestyle.

another thing i've always been kinda obsessed with:

the flags.

at our lake house, i had always had the idea in the back of my brain to make a flag bunting for our family name... or to use these in some way around the house.

then one of those crazy crafty women over at purl soho made these for her family's vacation house: 

napkins!

so now it's either napkins, or a flag bunting/banner...

so i came up with my new last name and my family's name. i like the way they go together and only really crafty sailors on our lake will know what they mean.

our lake is, yes, landlocked in the middle of missouri and far from any ocean's coast where most of the sailing happens, but it's one GIANT lake and there are lots of sailboats... which are especially beautiful in the morning hours. they go home by the time the big motor boats come out to play.

can you figure them out? :)

and i don't know if i'm going against all the rules and i'm probably going to make some sailors out there angry... but i wanted to see what these would look like in different colorways.

there are so many options. just gotta get that sewing machine out and put to good use!!

and to decide, traditional or non-traditional colors. the pink, orange, navy and khaki ones are my fave.

calling all freshman

i spotted the new kate spade bedding at bed bath and beyond and immediately thought how perfect these bright and playful spreads would be giving life to even the most boring dorm room. showing up with stripes and flowers in green, pink, black and white let's just say you will be the talk of the hall. that is one thing you shouldn't mind the other girls gossiping about :)

i was rather quickly turning the pages of the recent house beautiful on the train back from boston this past weekend when i stopped abruptly on page 44 as a colorful set of cocktail napkins hand-embroidered with singing divas caught my eye.

featured in "the best!" section of the magazine these belgian linen napkins are from a delightful kansas city store, sharyn blond linens! when i saw they were featured i had to give a little kansas city shout out!

and now for the fun part!

with many friends and relatives starting to add new little boys and girls to their families, i have recently been in the market for the perfect baby gift. something unique and thoughtful, but realistic and appealing to both the parents and babies.

this is a very hard criteria...but i have found just the thing- and funny enough sharyn blond is the origin (with other great baby gift ideas as well).
