fire island beaut.

i stumbled upon this little vacation getaway, designed by alexandra angle, and thought you might like it if i shared.

the image that first caught my attention was this one:

can you even imagine a cheerier, happier, more colorful vacation home kitchen??

and to implement this in your very own vacation home (or real home for that matter) is not expensive in the least! i had this very idea to use yellow and white linoleum tiles to replace one of my bathroom's floors (with charcoal walls), and this photo only solidifies the fact that i will do this. it's super cheap. super. and those are my favorite words.

they make them in solid colors so they aren't the vomit inducing speckled kinds (these are even still a little speckley for my taste) you used to see in hospitals and old schools. and they used them in hospitals and schools because... they were 1- cheap and 2- insanely durable!

quite lovely. here's another room in this house, done in the same fashion.

the rest of the house uses color with lots of white to encourage smiles as soon as you walk through it's doors.

i'd shower out here every morning. just sayin.

beautiful, no?

stay tuned for more of my linoleum inspire-files in a bit.

mental health getaway.

either of these bathrooms could be the prescription for those moments when you know winter has over stayed his welcome.

of course the view out the window, especially in the first, doesn't hurt.

happy hump day.

the sun'll come out, tomorrow.... right?

i think it's time. time for the sun. time for a fruity cocktail. sunscreen. salty air. the ocean. time for a vacation!!!!!

i'd even just take some sunshine so we can finally get rid of the snow that has long over-stayed its welcome. it's been sitting around for a week now.

spring? can you hear me? it's me, jill. please hurry.

anyone else feeling the winter bluuues?

oh happy day...

it was the happiest day!
emma + merritt got married the first weekend in september and i finally had the chance to put the post together.

it was one of those times i will never forget. it was real, it was joyous, it was rich. it was perfectly expressive of who they are...together.

the wedding was on whidbey island, washington, which is an island just off of seattle in puget sound, and it is where emma's parents live. with gorgeous views and brisk winds blowing off the ocean, fresh seafood with each turn, and sunrises and sunsets that make your heart melt, whidbey is a place where you quickly get comfortable. emma's family makes it even more comfortable.

there wasn't a detail overlooked from the fabulous save-the-dates and invitations, to the vintage bike, to the burlap table runners and homemade jam adorned with a colorful array of vintage feeling fabrics for each guest to take with them.

it came as no surprise as emma is quite the creative type...she works in seattle for a press + bindery company called good stock, and helps design custom books that tell family's stories.

the rain held off, the clouds finally lightened and emma + merritt enjoyed the happy day! it is truly special to watch your brother be with someone that makes him so happy. love is a beautiful thing, and this was a beautiful day.

vieques...the perfect cure for the winter blues

i know. how can you think about the winter blues with this gorgeous, invigorating, brisk, autumn weather? i agree, but you will be thanking me when february comes and you are wearing the same boots, hat, coat, scarf and ear muffs you have been wearing for three months.

i just recently learned about the fabulous island of vieques from a friend. and i am quite intrigued.

with more than a dozen pristine beaches where white sands unfurl into forever. the dazzling caribbean sea that laps under softly swaying palm trees.

pretty fishing villages lightly abuzz with the rhythm of an afternoon salsa. vieques island is puerto rico's best-kept secret where unspoiled shorelines and laid-back living have come to get away from it all.

and the newly opened w retreat and spa vieques is ready to host you.

so put this in your back pocket. and remind me how great it is when you get back in march...

to plan your trip visit this vieques site for everything you need to know to lay low and live the island life...for a few days.

you may never come back.

i might just join you...

xoxo
