light and dark.

grey. brown. black. cream. white.

texture. pattern. layers.

(that poster is actually from the gap, where the owner used to work. awesome.)

these rooms still have the 'more the merrier' feeling to me, with all their layers and details. but they're devoid of my usual color explosions. and dare i say, they are absolutely gorgeous and wonderful and brilliant and i'm loving them completely?

someone check my temperature.

:)

moonrise kingdom

ya'll.

i saw this last night:

sweet goodness.

i laughed out loud.
multiple times.

in fact, i lol'd like the best of em.

if you don't appreciate wes anderson (i.e. the royal tenenbaums/rushmore/the life aquatic), this might not be for you.

if you do however, i don't think i'd miss it.
if not just for the scenery and decor alone, the plot tickles your funny bone.

hilarious.

happy monday.

{i'm on a self imposed diet of fruits and vegetables today just to make myself feel better about the gluttonous events that occured for me and my eating habits this weekend. wouldn't change it, but shoot. did you know white cupcakes with strawberry icing are my favorite? me either. just found that out.}

surf shack

so i had an entirely different post ready for today.
but it got moved til monday.

i have been in obsession with this little surf shack for about a year now and i thought it was high time to share it with you all in the off chance that you haven't seen it yet.
and if you have, too bad. i don't care. here it is again.

an australian turned new yorker/ad exec decided he missed the outdoors of his home and purchased this property in montauk.

it's not your usual hoity toity hamptons beach house.

this one is quiky with a capital q.

{and if i had a surf shack to call my own, this is exactly exactly EXACTLY how i'd want it to look.}

with teepees and firepits. and old rickety lawn chairs.
where the more color and pattern equals the better option, always. neons, you betcha.
where surfing and outdoor living/dining/sleeping trump high tea and stuffy interiors, and movies are played on a giant white sheet amongst the mosquitoes.

where wood panneling that would normally appall anyone, is not only embraced but awesome.
where friends and family can come by the dozens and not have to worry about wet suits and dirty feet.
where old vanities and old sinks aren't ripped out but loved.
with couples sleeping in bunk beds, together or separate, i don't care.
and summer cocktails are served with breakfast.

where bees live:

and honey harvested:

and cheesey pick-up lines are painted on all the mirrors:

nothing is sacred in this place. and you know it took a ton of money to get it to look this way, but it kinda looks like it all could have come from the flea market at the very same time.

husband always tells me:
"if you were a booger, i'd pick you"

{he's so romantic.}

but that would FOR SURE end up on a mirror in my dream surf shack.
hell, i'm tempted to paint one in my current house. tonight!

**update**

thanks to one of our sweetest readers...

{seriously, she always has the nicest things to say. such a doll.}

elizabeth (you can find her here) informed me that emily's earrings in question from earlier this morning, were from stella & dot!

the capri chandies, in turquoise.

knowing that, it was just a simple google away before i found these 2:

i know. so pretty, right?

thanks, elizabeth!!

go get yourself some... you can right here.

love.

minty-aqua for your ears.

the other night emily, from the bachelorette, had lots of beachy dates.
{GO JEF}

usually she's a little more flashy-blingy than i would normally go for...
but the other night, she wore a gorge maxi in shades of orange, coral and purple. i tried looking for a pic online but no luck.

the thing that caught my attention most-- she wore mint earrings with that dress. totally unexpected. totally didn't "go," but it went. oh it went.

the earrings looked sort of amrita singh-esque to me.
there aren't a ton of true mint options out there, which surprised me.
but there are lots of minty/aqua goodness to be purchased.

and here's how you could wear them
a la emily:

minty aqua earrings #1

French Connection striped dress, $365 / Alice + Olivia long maxi dress, $195 / Warehouse straw clutch, $34 / Gold necklace / Amrita Singh gold plated jewelry / Nickel free jewelry

minty aqua earrings #2

killer.
i especially love the that brown dress. with the bag. and the studs.

but.

while we're on the topic of the bachelorette,
i'd just like to say that i love this season.
she's getting alot of crap for being nice and well, anti-slutty.

i think it's a breath of fresh air.
this show was turning into one big skank-fest before her (but don't get me wrong, i still liked it).

but i'm glad her daughter is apart of it.
i'm glad she's polite.
i'm glad she's a lady.
i'm glad she says thank you and shows manners.
i'm glad she kicked off the d-bags and crazies for being exactly what they are.
i like her.

and from day one, my 2 favorites were jef and ari.

bam. final 2.

now i sort of almost don't care who wins!

who am i kidding. i'm obsessed with jef and i hope he swoops in for the win.

thoughts...
on minty earrings? or comments from fellow team-jef-ers?

love.

head scarves.

i did this for myself and thought i'd share with you.

here is how you can wear a head scarf without looking back at yourself and laughing (such as the case with me and my photo from yesterday.)

i think the trick to wearing it like i failed tried: with your hair down and tying it on the side (like the lady in the middle).

{mentally noted.}

there you have it. 101 ways to wear the head scarf.
i mean.... it is such a great way to disguise some dirty or frizzled hair :)
