boys and girls.

get it...?
blue and pink. boys and girls.

dumb :)

but i am kinda having a moment with these 2 colors.
a true saturated blue and a true saturated pink.
oh hot pink, let me count the ways.

sidenote: after all you people will be over and sick of neon, especially le hot pink, i won't be. just so you know, you know?

in large doses, small doses and medium ones in between, i dig it.

that third picture is so ballsy. my home is colorful, but images like those make me crave more.

viva hot pink!

desert rose.

oh yes.
hi there.
i'm still here. and i can't even imagine why you'd still be stopping by... i've been such a bad, bad blogger. but i think this year and i have finally come to terms. i've been feeling so unsettled and a little restless, honestly sitting there waiting for the next shitty thing to come my way because that's how we started out! and it definitely took some time for the 2 of us to reconcile but we made it! and i think we're here on the other side!!!

i can't guarantee that i'll be back every single day, because to be honest, coming up with something earth-shatteringly awesome for you everyday was getting tougher and tougher.
perhaps that means when i am back, it's better stuff!? one can only hope :)

and this isn't even mine, but i saw it on 100layercakelet
and i thought it was so pretty.
it doesn't even have to be for a little girl.
i'd take this and make it mine!!

the only thing i might add to it is a small dose of saturated color and a few more patterns. i am still me, after all. and maybe some more pink!

and where better to find such things?
amber interior's shoppe!

this is what i'd add.

1 and 2.

and you can find all the sources from up above right here.

happy friday!!
and i'll be back in a bit with the regularly scheduled flowers.

2 posts in one day!?
i know i know, what can i say?

stripes!

remember this tablecloth?

i don't know how old it is because i've had it pinned for forever, but it's still available at anthro. you can buy yours here if you feel like dropping $250 on a tablecloth.

i had this pinned in my 'someday i wanna make this' board.
i just didn't ever get around to it and i figured somebody would pave the way and i could just follow their lead.

i was right.
oh happy day did it!!

you can find her 'how-to' right here.

and it's more neon.
who's a fan?
ME.

i have to say, hers is a little neater than the original.
i like the painted on quality of the anthro one.
so be messy :)

she's just the craftiest over there, at oh happy day.
her stuff always comes out spot on.

she has the original tablecloth as well,
and threw the most awesome donut party centered around it.
you can check that out here.
donut. party.

happy wednesday.

this summer.

this summer you'll find me in a mixture of stripes, florals (who's surprised?), and a dreamy combo of earth's prettiest pastels.

3 reasons why it's the coolest:

creamy pink.

last night there was nothing on tv and i was kinda bored.
there were things i should have been doing but nothing that i wanted to do.
so i picked an old domino out of the stack and revisited.

inside was the office of ines de la fressange, and it's always been a favorite...
even back when i never would have dared throw pink on my walls.
especially not a pink this vivid. vivid yet creamy.

she's daring. and bold.
and french. and perhaps that makes it even better?
(you can read more here)

i love it so much.
and it made me remember this:

just the prettiest of all time.
blogged about it here not long ago.
but that creamy pink color just slays me.
seriously, right there where it's cut, why does it have this affect on me?
i just need to make it myself.

(via barnsley house)

and while we're on the subject, i'd eat it right here in my pool pond house.
it's just so beautiful, too.

i wasn't ever pink's biggest fan.
i liked it i guess, but my 'favorite color' was always orange.
i had 4 brothers and we played in dirt. i was never a very girly girl.
now, as i'm almost 30, pink is settling in...
in my favorites list, in my home, on my blog, in my mind.

random.
but  happy creamy pink wednesday.

little did i know...

this is a long winded post. sorry.

but house and garden magazine was my first love.
first magazine love.
i was in college and in love.
before domino came out.
then domino came out, still in college, and it was my second love... but more soul consuming. those 2 still rank at the very top of the magazine hoarding love list.

then they both died.

but this morning on pinterest, i saw this image and i almost died.
(not really).

i love it.
i love the hot pink tufts.
the black and white carpet.
the oatmeal walls.
that mirror.
the pale blue and white stripes.

i have decided i'm re-doing my front navy blue room and this is its inspiration:
(i've been "over" my navy walls for a couple of months now.)

so i had to find more.
i had to see the rest of this house.

luckily pinterest said jacques grange did the design bc the link was broken and i couldn't follow it back to anything. so i googled jacques grange pink tuft and came up with this post from habitually chic.
i love the internet, you only have to ask.

it's the paris apartment of prada's mathilde agostinelli,
from a long time ago when it was published in... house and garden!
(may 2006)

the colors are less saturated than the first image and i like the first image better so i'm going with it.

then i kept reading.

look at this girls room.
i posted about it along time ago, here on the blue house bc i loved those bubble gum tufts.
(june 2011)

and then this room!
i posted about it, too bc i obssess over the wallpaper.
(august 2012)

well, as it turns out.
i love the rest of her place, too.

(you know those pink walls and myself are friendly. you can find more pink walls here, here, herehere, and here.)

well, anyway.

happy monday.
it was for me. and this all happened before 6:30 this morning.

polka dot glitter cookies

i feel like the last 8 things i've purchased have been polka dotted.
i'm kinda having a moment with them.
glad the rest of the world is, too.

don't look now, but i'd love to do this to our second bath:

love it in every way. very tempted.

moving on.

i wish i had more time. i'm sure you all feel that way, and i don't even have kids yet!
by the time i get home from work i feel like i'm just going to bed to get up and do it all over again. but if i had like 2 extra hours a day to get the stuff i have to get done, to then do the stuff that i want to get done....

i'd make these:

polka dot cookies!
in neon and neutrals!
with sparkles!

they're like little gems of all my current favorite things rolled into a sugar.

you can find the recipe here.

a random, yet happy thursday.
happy thursday, friends.

edgy egerton

i have a hallway and a bedroom that i want swathed in beautiful, patterned wallpapers.
i haven't done anything yet out of indecision.
but for the bedroom, if i could, i would choose this:

in this colorway.

the first room is from an old domino, of amanda peet's home.
the second, plum syke's dining room. don't know what publication it appeared in.

i'm not going to say it...

{perp erf cerler}
sound it out ^

because the saying makes me cringe.
like a really great song that was played to death on the radio and every time you hear it you instinctively smash your hand on your car radio... switching to to something else, anything else.

that is how i feel about
a pop of color.

i hate it now.
they've over used it and pinterest is making it even worse.

but i really do love the effect.
can we just call it something else already?
what about a burst of pigment?
or an explosion of hue?
or a chunk of rainbow?
something else, anything else.

seriously, all my weirdness aside, it really does have a huge impact. take these rooms for instance...
they've totally funked up the girly and subdued colored floral wallpaper.

amanda peet added tons of tonal prints and a bright yellow lamp and red chair.
plum sykes added hot pink silk chair cushions.

and if i were to do this in my bedroom,
i would be doing something very similarly.
dying over it with hot pink.

thoughts?

merry. and bright.

have you seen the new december lonny?

in love with this colorful bathroom:

in love with the pink and red for christmas.

a la carrie.

i've been busy making poms in various colors any free second i get.
trying to get it done before december 25th. (ha.)

in hot pink.
cranberry red.
black and white.
mushroom.
and mint.

can't wait to string them all up.

if it ends up happening,
i'll be sure to snap some pics for ya.

i still don't know what to call it.

but i'm happy to see that this color is still trending,
and this year i think it's even bigger!

what is it?

wine? maroon? burgundy? deepest darkest raspberry? ox blood? (gross, no.)

last october i professed my love for this color mixed with magenta.
it totally takes it up a notch, no?

well, h&m says you can also mix it with coral:

and jenna lyons likes it with hot pink:

i like it all 3 ways.

beautiful.

i never did pull the trigger and get me some david hicks, la fiorentina.
maybe its a sign i should jump on that.
{i think i'm holding out for 4 window panels worth.
but at this rate and at that price, it might be awhile ;) }

how do you feel about this color popping up everywhere?
some people i know are very opposed.
perhaps it reminds them of the last time it was cool... was that the 80s?
feels to me like it was the 80s or early early 90s.
the key to keeping it fresh is pairing it with bolder, bright colors.

anyway.
to each his own, i guess.

this close.....

when we moved into our new office, i mentioned more about it here,
there was lots of mid-century mod furniture left behind.

and some random other pieces.
this is one of those random other pieces.

i declared her mine and i'm taking her home.
(do you know how much i love free furniture? it's a sickness.)

she's going to be my new bar in my dining area.
the walls in there are so dark navy blue, they are legitimately almost black.

and i'm thiiiiiis close to painting her a shade of pink:

with neutrals it provides the right amount of umph. ya know?

and despite the use of it in my kitchen, and other pink things i've blogged about and love, i'm not a die-hard fan of every shade every time. in fact, i'm more often not a fan.

but this shade, this time...

i think it's about to happen.

and i bought a new lamp for it yesterday, too.
its the same neutral sandy-nude as the woman's shoes in the bottom picture.

in my head it's going to look fierce.
just hope it comes out to be as cute in reality.

pictures soon.

prob tomorrow or early next week because i'm pumped.

musings.

one of these things has nothing to do with the other.
they are just things i'm digging right now.

like my kitchen.
i made some progress with it this weekend.
like hanging some art:

and i am 100% fully aware that this is a tease.
and that i keep promising you things-- like a showing of my pink kitchen, or my newly upholstered settee.
(there she is... she's been done for weeks now. and we use her. and we love her.)
more here. here. here. here. and here.

i am 78% completed with the kitchen and i promise you by friday there will be photos.
along with a list of what's left to do.
scout's honor. (although i was never an official girl scout.)
so i guess i just promise promise.
promise.

this is the most effortlessly cool saturday morning summer outfit i've seen thus far.

long dress, for those not-freshly-shaven-legs.
a hat for bedhead.
sunnies for smeared morning make-up.
toms.

want it want it want it.
all.

this bar, via design sponge, is so well put together.
and color coordinated!
mine looks half as cool.

i need to work on it.

cool people have cool bars.

and summer fruit.

been eating my face full.
and i think i'm making this tonight.

happy monday.
