i wish i had the restraint to dress my home in a variation of three colors, plus the original mint kitchen. it's so beautiful.

i follow them both on instagram, and they truly look happy together.

and that makes me happy for them.

for the boys:

i like kid bedrooms that have a healthy dose of adult furniture and maturity, with an even healthier dose of kid. all mixed together.

anything too juvenile, i'm not so much a fan.

anything too serious and staunch, also not a fan.

kids need to be able to be kids in their room, with a space that will let their imagination grow free. with color and whimsy. but i also like that smooshed in with furniture that isn't cheap, that you aren't going to replace in 2 years, that will grow with them until they move on to college, if you so choose to keep it around that long.

ones that don't scream 'baby' or 'child.'

know what i mean?

this weekend i was on society6 looking for art for my family room/den/whatever you call it.

i came across artist greg guillemin.

he does pop art of some of your favorite super heroes.

(some a little raunchy (!) but also some that you could squeeze in a little boy's room).

after i saw these, i wished i had a little boys room to decorate.

good day.

yesterday was kinda awesome.

the weather wasn't so much so i spent alot of my time indoors.

but i think the spring spruce up mentality has entered my brain!

first, after church and brunch,

i came home and cozied up to the new lonny.

i enjoyed it very much.

michelle adams has her new apartment in this issue.

and guys, it's so good!! i'm kinda obsessed.

it's definitely more restrained color-wise than i could ever go, but i love it so much.

best one for her yet.

i want her bedroom to be mine. its gone into the inspiration folder fo sho.

then i felt a little crafty.

i did some nail polish marbling that i'm excited to share with you all later.

and i got out my paints. it was inspired by michelle's painting above.

i haven't painted a painting in a long long time. felt like the good ol days.

i also took a nap on my couch.

another thing that i haven't done in a long long time.

throw some other ordinary life things in there,

and i consider that a pretty good day.

furrr-fect

boys and girls, it's getting cold at night.

we sleep with the windows open because it's conducive to snuggling.

husband. myself. and dog.

that, and nothing is fresher than crispy fall air.

and miss dog's not little:

{is it funny [read- weird] that my favorite engagement picture from almost 4 years ago is mostly of my dog and doesn't even include our faces? thanks for saying no.}

this weekend it's expected to dip into the low 30's at night!!

we still haven't re-done our bedroom yet.

the places you spend the most time always seem to be the last you do....

but i'm seriously looking to add a furr-bulous blanket to the mix.

this is the room of my ever-loving dreams:

sweet lord, it's amazing.

these fur blankets aren't just warm, they also hide a few faux pas:

like messy beds. they become more spectacular, far less ordinary.

and dog hair? what dog hair? no no, that be my fur blanket, people.

my sweet pooch isn't welcomed onto any other furniture in our house but our bed.

and she relishes in it.

and i like it, too.

while i'm the insides to our sleeping sandwich.

husband to the right and dog to the left down by my knees.

wouldn't have it any other way.

my photo from earlier... as promised i'm back to share how it can be used as inspiration.

and apparently i was really inspired!

i just loved the colors.

dark olive green, white and cream, lavender, hint hints of pink and orange, and gold.

what's not to love?

so here's a bedroom to start with.

i am so in love with this army surplus green blanket. i'm getting one for my bed. stat.

from lots of places but i found one here. on an all white bed? scrumptious.

just add a few more accessories and a wall color change,

and we'd be good to go.

re-do

husband and i are moving.

not houses, just bedrooms. we're picking up shop and moving our master bedroom across the hall. our house is old so it doesn't have a 'true' mb in our modern terms. we just felt it's time for a change so we're moving!

time to start fresh. we're leaving the decor in our old room for the guests.

yay! i have so many ideas, this part of the game is always hard for me... i can't ever decide which direction to go. the walls are already painted a darker gray-beige-brown.

color.

that's all i've decided i want. bright spots of color.

thinking lavender lamps.

white bedding.

and then, that's all the decisions i've made.

hibernation

hibernation has absolutely hit. i don't plan on resurfacing until i see the first signs of spring. i feel much more comfortable staying put under a blanket than trying to trek through these bitter temps, blowing snow and messy streets. if only i had one of these cave like spots to set up camp for the next few months.

as a kid i was always building forts or making reading spots under tables with my cabbage patch kids and falling asleep. mom couldn't find me for hours!

there is something cozy and safe about a covered or built in space.

maybe its better i don't have one. you all might get worried.

at one point i considered devising a plan to put two twin beds in our spare room...

but then i realized that was quite unrealistic as that room serves as the laundry room, the craft room, the sit in front of 4 computer screens for long hours room, the tear out magazine pages and lay them all over the floor room, the shut the door and pretend it isn't a disaster room, the put all the furniture you don't love in it and hope it works room, the pets room (yes, we have a fish), the out of season storage room, and last, but not least, the guest room.

we opted for a daybed with a trundle that tutu had instead, which is a much more space friendly option, but doesn't offer the symmetry and balance that is so harmonious with two identical twin beds.
