stripes!

remember this tablecloth?

i don't know how old it is because i've had it pinned for forever, but it's still available at anthro. you can buy yours here if you feel like dropping $250 on a tablecloth.

i had this pinned in my 'someday i wanna make this' board.
i just didn't ever get around to it and i figured somebody would pave the way and i could just follow their lead.

i was right.
oh happy day did it!!

you can find her 'how-to' right here.

and it's more neon.
who's a fan?
ME.

i have to say, hers is a little neater than the original.
i like the painted on quality of the anthro one.
so be messy :)

she's just the craftiest over there, at oh happy day.
her stuff always comes out spot on.

she has the original tablecloth as well,
and threw the most awesome donut party centered around it.
you can check that out here.
donut. party.

happy wednesday.

california.

i've always been a little more on the bohemian/eclectic side.
i like pattern, and color, and texture, just extra stuff. extra layers.
mexican/ethnic textiles, and bright colors.
it speaks to me more than anything else.

my friends in college used to call me 'expensive hippie'.
like i shave my armpits and bathe... lets not get crazy.
but my hair is crazy ass long and almost always left to dry on its own...
and i've been wearing maxi dresses for almost 15 years.

but lately, its even more than before!
i live in carefree-type layers of loose, worn-in tees, with scraggly denim cut-offs.
and i want my house to have to same feel.

casual. with a spark of a little somethin somethin.
does that even make sense?
it does in my head.

maybe its summer talking.
maybe it's the fact that half of the people i follow on instagram are from california and they're rubbing off :)

but this is me this summer,
and i want it to stick around.

i'm kicking off the starchy and proper,
and kicking-back.

join me?

all good things.
and maybe they don't even make total sense to you.
but they all evoke a feeling for me.
and i like it.

p.s. ascotfriday just bought a winnebago, the 'wertzebago'!
and i'm sure it will end up even cooler than the one just up above.
i kinda freakin love that idea and just added it to my life list.

my little hero

over the weekend my sweet friend had a baby shower for her first little baby nugget.
it's a girl and she's due here in a few weeks.

i found these super bunnies on pinterest and almost died. they were everything... the most adorable super hero i've seen to date.

so i followed the link back to the website of the woman who makes these sweet little bunnies. i wanted to get one for baby-on-the-way.

well. turns out that she's a french super bunny and i couldn't read her website... in french.

so next option-- i thought i might try to make my own little super hero.

and i did.

and here she is:

with the cutest little pink knit stockings. ever.

(they were made from a sweater dress i had in my closet. this dress was one of my favorite things but it got a giant unfixable snag in it, and i never could bring myself to throw it away. so now it lives on in super hero form. and that makes me happy.)

and cape.

i was so nervous to give her this super bunny.
seriously, as she was opening it up my stomach was doing flips and my cheeks turned red.

i didn't want it to look too hokey and homemade.
but she loved it, and everyone else did, too.
and that's all that matters.

sorry i was mia yesterday,
i was at a very long, very boring work show.

love!
(and sorry for the bad phone pics.)

weekend progress.

this weekend i had high hopes of finishing my settee for the kitchen.
unfortunately i also had 37 other things on my to-do list and didn't get that far.

remember i just purchased this fabric for it, to go swimmingly in my pink kitchen.

but here's how she started:

i got it from a consignment store a year ago, and the upholstery was perfect. just not cute.

so i started removing the arms so i could get at the gold fish scales.

and this where i had to stop friday after work. we had junk to go do, so i had to quit.

did a little more saturday afternoon:

i was starting to get rill excited. then i had more junk to go do and had to quit again.

and here's where we ended last night:
(took these this morning.)

{almost} ta da!!
i really like this fabric.

you can almost see it,
just squint a little.

i'm hoping to finish her up tonight.
fingers crossed.
the seat took me the longest because it required some sewing and i'm still moderately a beginner in that arena. there were a few try-and-re-tries. so i'm hoping the seat-back and the very back go faster-- no sewing necessary!

did you have a good weekend?
i kinda did. it was fun and productive.
those 2 things don't often mix and mingle for me and my weekends.

love.

caviar

my new fabric!

purchased for the pink kitchen.
going to use it reupholster my little 2-seater settee.

waverly's (sun and shade outdoor fabric)
'a new twist' in caviar.

i just got it in the mail yesterday.
over the internet it looks like mostly gray and cream and black.
but in real life that darker gray stripe is actually a dark brown espresso color.
and the outdoor fabric should hold up better in my kitchen.
i don't have kids, but i do have a husband and a big brown dog :)

i initially found it online and new i'd like it with my newly painted walls. the colors online always make me nervous so i ran up to joann's where they had it in real life that i could touch. and feel. and hold in my hands. and the colors? loved them even more in person because i could actually see that brown stripe.

i could have just purchased it at joann's while i was there but it was $49.99 a yard. i did have a coupon that could have brought the price down to $19.99 which would have meant:
a total of $79.96 plus tax for 4 yards.
i knew i could sleuth out better.

went back online and found it on amazon and ebay, both listed for $22.99 a yard. not any better. amazon did have free shipping but ebay did not.
total $91.96 (plus tax. and shipping).

crossed my fingers and headed over to tonic living. ta da.
only $12.95 a yard and i had an online coupon for 10% off!
with shipping my total came to $60.87.
mucho better!!

so all in all...
i'm quite happy.

and this weekend imma reupholster that thing.

any good deals for you all lately??

why

is it that when i finally find some fabric that i'm in obsession with,
i find it's 100 bucks a yard (and thus over the fence and through the woods over my budget)?
i need like 7 yards, so that's prob not going to happen.

i have a wing back from my grandparents in the navy front room that needs a facelift. i haven't done anything yet because i've been waiting and searching and hoping for this:

search goes on.

but in a random note, have you seen lulu dk's byzantine dinnerware?

want.

get it here.

would be so great to mix.

need.

it's on sale.

for today only.

that's all i got.
til next time.

block prints.

i trust that you all had a very happy mother's day.
i hope all you mothers out there got a chance to smooch your babies, old or new!

these were supposed to be the flowers on friday...
and i forgot. wah wah.

better late than never i guess.

back to the regularly scheduled monday.

so this weekend, i got to read up on some old issues of veranda while staying at my mother in law's. she always has the best magazines, i look so forward to it :)

but i found this page in the may issue:

re-affirmed my obsession with indian block printed fabric.
color and pattern just ripe for mixing and layering.

unfortunately, (especially coming from veranda) all of these were significantly out of my price range. like les indiennes, i have been in major love for years but some of that fabric costs as much as my first car. not really, but it's monday and i'm dramatic.

so i've had these 2 resources saved under my favorites tab for awhile and i thought i'd share the wealth. one you've probably seen elsewhere, one maybe not.

they are also hand-blocked, in gorgeous color, and light-years more affordable.
hip hip!!

the only downside i see is that this fabric is thin.
so no upholstery prospects.
but pillows, light curtains, bedding, little baby dresses... you betcha.

these first come from a little gem i found only available online:

site looks a smidge sketch. and i haven't purchased from them, so i can't give any recommendations.... just a glimpse of their beautiful stuff. and i'm sure it's fine. i will let you know if i purchase anything in the future.

some of my favesies:

'azalea'

'off-white'

my absolute favorite out of everything today!!!
neon orange and pink. you better believe it.
will be living at my house. somehow, someway.
'orange fuchsia floral'

'pine'

'pumpkin'

'sandal'

'turquoise'

also one of my favorites,
'white floral'

this next bunch comes from saffron marigold.

i don't think they sell fabric by the yard but i have purchased a table cloth before from anthro just for the fabric, and it isn't a bad idea at all. especially here- they have curtain panels, duvets, and table cloths of all sizes... which means you could get lots of yardage for not alot of price.

'paisley au lait'

'wedding day'

'vanilla glace'

'moonlit taj'

'maharaja'
but hurry, this one is discontinued.

another piece of gorge.
'morning dew'

see, with a little bit of searching and creativity, you can get every bit of the les indiennes look without taking out a new mortgage ;)

happy monday,
JILL

sunshiny day.

not sure why i had amassed all these images with sunshiny yellow fabric, gleaming in the yellow sunshine, but i did.

{i feel as if i need this skirt.
it's a must.}

its a gloomy, kinda chilly day here in kc.
we have been getting so spoiled with the summer like weather, now that it's back to normal... i want my sunshine back!

and yes, that's the same jason wu gown that i posted before, but i heart it.

i'm off work tomorrow, so happy friday to me! and any others out there with a catholic boss ;)
i'm thrilled.
