the one that got away.

well. sort of, but not really.

like most brides i loved my wedding dress. loved it. still do. i got all red when i tried it on, did a serious happy dance and loved it to major pieces... but there was another one.

most brides say it's "the one" but i was already sold on another dress when i found it. no worries, it happily got moved to slot #2, but i still really loved that dress #2.

and here it is. please excuse me being in it.

it made me happy and fit the "texture" i was looking for but a) it didn't photograph as pretty as it was in person, and b) it was champagne.

i wish someone could give me a time and place to wear this dress today. it's not even a real wedding dress, just a beautiful dress with silk rosettes applied over the entire thing... anywho.

my whole purpose for this post wasn't supposed to be about dress #2 and how after 2 years i still love it per se, more so about how i love a good dress with tons of texture. it really gets my goat. i think it's true beauty.

so i have tons more to share with great texture and charm.

(i'd prefer this with the long skirt all the way around but i'm digging the rest of it.)

loving the round table

i dream of the day when my entry is larger than a 4 foot by 7 foot little teeeeeny tiny space that holds more than 2 people at a time. when that day comes i have plans to plant a round beautiful mahogany pedestal table right in the middle!!

back with more linoleum

i know i know, linoleum? my post from earlier had striped linoleum floors and i had mentioned how i had plans to do the exact same thing to my bathroom.

upon moving into my little casa, everything had to be redone. almost EVERYTHING... including the flooring in the 2 bathrooms. one had carpet (SICK) and the other had (ahem, has) ugly old linoleum you roll off a sheet (SICK).

so i went strolling through my home depot to find a reasonably priced solution for bathroom #2. i came across their 1 foot linoleum tiles and they were only like 67 cents a piece! they did have the uglier speckled version as well as the new solid colored version. new solid color version = beautiful.

bonus, linoleum is even earth friendly and easy to install yourself!

fire island beaut.

i stumbled upon this little vacation getaway, designed by alexandra angle, and thought you might like it if i shared.

the image that first caught my attention was this one:

can you even imagine a cheerier, happier, more colorful vacation home kitchen??

and to implement this in your very own vacation home (or real home for that matter) is not expensive in the least! i had this very idea to use yellow and white linoleum tiles to replace one of my bathroom's floors (with charcoal walls), and this photo only solidifies the fact that i will do this. it's super cheap. super. and those are my favorite words.

they make them in solid colors so they aren't the vomit inducing speckled kinds (these are even still a little speckley for my taste) you used to see in hospitals and old schools. and they used them in hospitals and schools because... they were 1- cheap and 2- insanely durable!

quite lovely. here's another room in this house, done in the same fashion.


the rest of the house uses color with lots of white to encourage smiles as soon as you walk through it's doors.

i'd shower out here every morning. just sayin.
