it's summer...

with heat advisories, and i don't want to put any heat to my hair.

can i be really honest and say that i probably only dry my hair 3-5 times a year! no joke, special occasions only :) but i especially don't want to do it when it's pushin a 100 outside.

let's:

i cannot remember how to fishtail braid but i'm gonna re-learn, and add a little coral lipstick and call it good.

loving those coral lips, for blondes or brunettes! so summery.

happy thursday, and happy summer!

3 years...

yesterday my husband and i celebrated our anniversary. we have been married 3 years!!! i can't believe it. everyday is still more exciting and fun then the day prior. we are best friends and have so much fun together still...after over 10 years of friendship :) that is something i could not be more thankful for. it brings tears to my eyes.

thought i would head down memory lane with a few favorite wedding pics done by the incredibly talented becca at wirken photography in kansas city.

do you like mangos?

because i do but sometimes i don't.

well. i found this recipe where it is a major do!! so yummy. and healthy too.

it's from the super scrumptious nate berkus and his show, by maria menounos.

introducing her black bean and mango salsa:

1 ripe mango, diced
1/2 cup italian dressing
2 cans of black beans (rinsed)
1/2 cup diced red onions
1 green pepper and 1 red pepper, diced (i subbed 1 orange for the green cause i like em better)
salt and pepper to taste

-in food processor (i used the magic bullet) blend the dressing and 1/4 cup of the mangos until smooth
-combine everything with the mango puree
-season with salt and pepper, chill and serve.

i eat it by the spoonful, quite literally, and with tortilla chips. yum.

do you also like chocolate? me too.

here's a recipe i just found that i can't wait to try this holiday weekend...

2 tbsp. cornstarch
2.5 tsp. cinnamon
1.5 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. salt
3 cups skim milk
4 oz. milk chocolate
3 oz. dark chocolate
2 tsp. vanilla

-mix cornstarch, cinnamon, chili powder and salt in a sauce pan. over medium heat whisk in milk (breaking up clumps).
-cook, stirring often, until mixture thickens, approx. 12 minutes
-lower heat and stir in chocolate until melted
-remove from heat and add vanilla
-let cool 5 minutes
-whisk again, then pour into popsicle molds
-freeze for 6 hours and devour (i'm sure i will)

i bet you could use regular jello chocolate pudding. who knows, i might try it the scratch way first, then get lazy and use the kind from a box there on after :)

hungry yet?

AND.................................

folks, i have disco fever.

amber @ my daily stop, amber interiors, (GO SEE HER if you're living under a rock.) did a post yesterday on disco balls. DISCO BALLS. i have one and have been wanting to hang it somewhere cheeky but didn't really know if i had the guts. she just pushed me over the disco edge and now i think i can i think i can!

in an unused fireplace. yesss.

in a book shelf. yes please!
this is what i'm going to do until i have a wee little girl of my own someday, and then it'll hang in her room.

and of course, the traditional hanging. but not in a disco. in a living room, bathroom, office, over a table, OR in your closet... anywhere your little sparkle-loving heart desires.

(all disco ball images found at amber interiors.)

*thanks for the encouragement, amber.

are we nuts, or do you kids like them, too?

your french cafe

the recent article in elle decor featuring keith mcnally's martha's vineyard farm freshened my love for the french cafe chair.

the casual feel, indoors or out, with the touch of color and warm rattan texture is so inviting. a timeless, tasteful look that is appropriate in any setting...

hangin egg chair

remember elle's post about hanging chairs? well, friend jo just emailed elle and i asking if she should purchase this egg chair for her son's playroom... we said absolutely! it was only $49 at a discount furniture store here in kc (email me and i'll fill you in... joanna hasn't decided if she's gonna get one yet and i don't want them to sell out!!).

**update: ok. not that you were all running out to buy these, but jo got her chair, so now i can tell you they are at the jcpenny's outlet store off of I-35 and 75th st.**

there happened to be a few of them in stock, so at lunch, i borrowed a truck and became an owner of one of these myself.

the cushion will get refashioned but for that price, i had to had to have it ;)

it's going to hang on the dock (it's built for the great outdoors... or children's playrooms for that matter) at my family's lake house.

can't wait.

any spur of the moment, run out at lunch time and grab 'er, purchases for yourself lately?

shell chandies

this wedding (from awhile ago!) in jamaica has always been stuck in the back of my brain.

first, the bride has crazy style. i love her earrings and green shoes in her 'second look'... check it out here.

but what i loved most, was the hanging shell chandeliers.

so fun, right?

nassa chandelier

white bubble shell chandelier

i found them! i kinda like sleuthing things out... feels awesome when you find what you're looking for. well, they are found here. and they are cheap cheap!!

i don't think i need any at the moment, but i'll keep it in my back pocket... who knows, a party may require them in the future. like perhaps on my new (but haven't started yet...) back patio!! perfection.

they sort of remind me of those 70's-macrame chandeliers, but in a good way.
